"“Simply fantastic” Had Sunday lunch here. Have eaten here many times in past two years and its always been very good. However, this time it was better than that; it was simply fantastic. Very well presented and delicious food. Great service (with a smile). Good real ale (Hook Norton). And NOT overpriced. Oh, and its a lovely old building and both the bar & restaurant are very tastefully decorated. Can't believe anyone could dislike this eating experience! Ta" - AUGUST 2011

"“Lovely food” We went here for a meal - we were staying just down the road. The pub itself is beautiful and both the food and the service was excellent. Cannot fault anything - would highly recommend. Ta" - AUGUST 2011

"“What great hospitality” My sister and I had a lovely 3-day break in the Cotswolds. Robert and Martin and all the staff at The Plough Inn a 17th century Coaching Inn, made us feel very welcome. We were given a huge super room on the ground floor with dual aspect overlooking the garden and the en-suite had both a bath and a walk-in shower. A full English Breakfast was included in the price and we could have included dinner too but we decided to play it by ear. We did have dinner each night as the food was excellent and the ambience in both dining room and bar was great. They also have a "Gin Club" there! It's fun to try the different G&Ts and they have an enormous choice of both!! We shall definitely be going back there on our next visit to the Cotswolds - even if it's just to try a few more Gins!! Ta" - AUGUST 2011

"“WOW WOW WOW - DON'T MISS THIS PLACE.” My wife and I absolutely loved every minute of this place. Food, surroundings and service were all beyond our expectations. Ta" - JULY 2011

"“Beautiful weekend with my partner made perfect...” I had a short stay The Plough this weekend with my partner for our anniversary. The staff were quick to pick up on this fact and went out of their in no short measure to make it a weekend to remember. We dined in the restaurant and found the staff engaging and entertaining and service fantastic. Would certainly come back! Ta" - JULY 2011

"“Truly superb” What a wonderful experience. The whole experience was as near perfect as is possible. The food was wonderful, the service was outstanding. A truly lovely setting. I would recommend this experience to anyone. In-fact I am trying to think of excuses to travel there again. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. Ta" - JULY 2011

"A wonderful relaxing hotel.. Over the past 12 months I have stayed at several hotels in the area around Witney, all of them of a good standard and some very good.. But the Plough takes the top prize.. very comfortable room and bed. I need a desk and love an extra 'proper' chair to sit in for reading. Nice big bath and good strength in the shower. view of the garden and a quite room.. The food was superb and the staff very friendly and helpful... Everything a man away from home needs.. The only draw back for me is the price, it is a little too much for a self employed business man.. and although superb, £13 for fish and chips is more than I can pay on a regular basis.. all in all though 10/10.. Ta" - JUNE 2011

"The Best. We stay in a number of hotels a year and this was beyond doubt one of the best we've stayed in on all levels from service, quality of room and cuisine, to accommodation for children. And set in a beautiful countryside close to Oxford. Lovely, thank you. Ta" - JUNE 2011

"Plough Hotel This hotel is a real gem in the Cotswolds. The hotel was very sweet and the room was cute, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent, staff were very friendly and efficient and although it was not the cheapest we would definitely return. Ta" - MAY 2011

"An idylic country house hotel This was a last minute booking as when we were in the cotswolds the weather was so beautiful we decided to stay an extra night. We were not disappointed with our choice. The hotel is in a beautiful setting, in the middle of a sleepy English village. We had drinks on the croquet lawn as the sun was setting. The room was clean and well equiped whilst still retaining it's character with beams and stone windows. The bath was a great size with a good shower and a nice range of complimentary toiletries. The only slight disappointment was the evening meal. You don't have much choice but to eat here if you don't want to drive and go in search of somewhere else. The choice was o.k. but a little limited and expensive for what it was. it was good but not great. The breakfast however was very nice and cooked fresh for you. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend it. Ta" - MAY 2011

"Exquisite is the only word which does this place justice. Having been for a 'lazy Sunday' I can confirm it was exactly that. A few drinks whilst reading the paper in the bar, an absolutely excellent evening meal (with one of the best main courses I have ever encountered - seriously), and a top quality breakfast (not included in the deal). In terms of the room, the bed was huge and comfortable and the bathroom was modern, beautifully decorated with an excellent bath and built in music system. If I was absolutely forced to complain about something I would say the ceiling was very low in the shower causing me to crouch over but to be honest it added to the charm of the place. All staff were friendly, highly professional and clearly experienced. As for the location, to be honest I am not sure what is around there but my intention was not to leave the hotel for the duration of my stay and thankfully it was so good I didn't have to! Will I be back? Most definitely! The deals on Friday and Sunday nights are incredible value and to be honest the place is so good I would happily pay full price on other nights anyway. I will definitely be recommending it to friends as well. I simply couldn't fault it. Ta" - MAY 2011

"We booked this hotel after reading previous reviews! We had our two stay week package, cream tea, dinner, breakfast! We even added an extra nights stay! We found the staff welcoming and our room lovely! We were in the new wing and looked out to the lovely side garden! As promised champagne waiting in our room! Gorgoues sunshine we opted to have our champagne with our cream tea out in the garden! We read the previous review and yes on our second night a new male staff member looked a little at ease but we put this down to being a new starter and it did not distract from our dining experience! Our two female waitresses both nights courteous and really welcoming! Great place to stay we will be back.Visit the Clanfield Tavern too excellent food and ales and Glenn a fantastic host. " - JUN 2011

"Such a brilliant bolthole to escape to. Great spot, lovely rooms, delicious food and perfect atmosphere. Could not fault it and the people running it and staff were all fantastic. " - JUN 2011

"The hotel is a perfect example of Cotswolds charm. The staff were fabulous - friendly, helpful, nothing too much trouble. Rob was just lovely. The food was fantastic too -w e had 3 breakfasts there and 2 dinners. The only complaint we had was that the water in our room was somewhat unreliable (we couldn't both get a shower when we wanted one, the water stopped running). Eventually they had to move us to another room. The old part of the hotel is much more charming, but the new part where we were moved to is better appointed - larger rooms, huge beds, modern bathrooms etc. I hesitate to mention this as we had a super time and the staff were all so lovely, but given the price of the room, it should be a guarantee that running water would be, well, on tap. Try & stay in the new part. " - APR 2011

"Heavenly -The Plough offers the best of Old and New. The old style comfort and character, but with great big TV's and wi-fi access. Wonderful staff. We were treated like really special guests. We ate twice in the restaurant - utterly delicious, and they let us have dessert back in our room in front of the TV. The bed was very comfy. We had a lovely, lovely time, walking around the village and enjoyed patting the donkeys in the fields. " - Paula, London SEP 2010

"Just the place for a relaxing break - Arrived after walking part of the Thames Path and it was just what we needed. It's a lovely building, typical Cotswolds, with friendly helpful staff and an atmospheric restaurant with good, well-presented food. The bedroom was fine if a little functional with a clean, bright bathroom. Would have prefered a separate shower cubicle rather than two wash basins but that's probably just personal taste and the shower above the bath was very powerful. Would definitely go again especially on a 'Lazy Sunday' when the room is free as long as you spend at least £75 on a meal, including drink. That's not hard to do and we still ended up spending £165 in total but champagne and a really good red wine accounted for a fair bit of that! " - Annebailes, Kent AUG 2010

"Quiet country retreat The setting was idyllic, the room and bathroom large and well appointed. My husband and I enjoyed a local ale and cider in the pub portion which was comfortable and cozy. We wished we had left Oxford earlier and had dinner in the Cotswold Plough restaurant. The breakfast was exceptional with many choices and the Eggs Benedict was excellent. There was an old church and church yard behind the B & B which we explored after arriving that night. " - LR USA 2010 AUG

"Really nice hotel set in a lovely village Would recommend staying here, owners are very friendly and want to make you stay enjoyable, the Sunday deal spent £75.00 on food and drink and get your accommadation free is well worth it. " - LR AUG 2010

"The plough is a charming place with very attentive staff. Our evening meal was fabulous as so was our breakfast the following morning. I highly reccomend the Eggs Benedict. Will definatly make a return visit next year. Thanks for making our 1st wedding anniversary so special. " - July 2010, L. Jones

"The Plough has an atmospheric look and it didn't disappoint inside. The four poster room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, with a light and airy bathroom, the only downside was there was little space to store clothes and the furniture was mismatched, but this also added to the charm. The food was excellent, with the chief knocking us up a snack when we arrived hungry after our journey and serving time was over. The staff were friendly and helpful, we enjoyed our stay and will be going back. " - August 2010 T. A.

"My Wife and i stayed there on the 'lazy Sunday' deal which meant that the accommodation was free if you spent £75 between you on food and drinks - easy! We arrived at 1 and sat out on the terrace amongst beautiful scenery to eat our lunch. Excellent food and wine - sat eating lobster and drinking sancerre in the lunchtime sun! I'd paid for an upgrade when i booked from a standard to a 4 poster at an extra cost of £20!
Clanfield itself is very small but ideal for 1 or 2 nights away to sit and relax. Nice walks along the streams and fields, another good pub next door - perfect. In the evening we then had a tapas type snack in the garden with several drinks throughout the day. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. A lovely breakfast in the morning completed this excellent stay.
We were fairly extravagant and so, with upgraded accommodation, 3 course lunch with very good wine, drinks inc pimms, G&T, Cider and wine all day, evening snack (which was all that was needed after a big lunch) and breakfast cost a total of £150. This could be done cheaper if you were on a tighter budget but seeing as we rarely have a night away without our children we were willing to pay for what we wanted! This really was a superb deal and we'd definitely be returning.

"I hope you had a good break last week as you certainly deserved it after all your hard work making Gareth and Hannah’s wedding so successful. Many people were very complementary regarding the whole reception with the food being especially praised. Serving a meal for 80+ guests obviously presents challenges but your team certainly “came up trumps? with both the menu and quality of the meal being greatly appreciated. " - May 2010 B.M.

"Relaxing Break. Only stayed for 1 night, wish I could have stayed longer. Hotel not in built up area, if you want peace and quiet, stay here. Evening meal / breakfast, very good. Would I stay again, YES " - April 2010 M Forder.

"Character Inn. Had a very pleasant evening in the Plough at Clanfield. The bar has a great atmosphere with a very homely feel. The food in the dinning room was excellent and well presented as was the drinks. The room we stayed in was very clean and full of character but the plumbing was as might be expected from a building of this age. The only area of concern was that staff were a bit new and a little bit unsure in certain areas, perhaps because it was the beginning of the season. Generally a very good trip in spite of the weather. " - April 2010 A King.

"Luxury country hotel, but down to earth, friendly customer service. A lovely bit of luxury with four poster bed which was really comfortable, a special romantic treat for my partner's birthday. Loved the country feel and history to the hotel, food was just wonderfully presented and tasted divine. Staff very attentive and friendly with relaxed atmosphere which made you feel at ease. Altogether an enjoyable stay, " - March 2010 V Golding.

"Fantastic hotel. Great hotel, staff and location. Will definitely return.." - April 2010 A Crowther.

"Highly recommended. A wonderful Hotel with helpful staff, lovely accommodation which is very clean and the food is excellent." - March 2010 P Perry LR .

"Great find! A charming country house hotel with equally charming staff .Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing break away.  " - P Power March 2010.

"Really Fabulous, Bliss! We had such a fab time that we stayed an extra night ! Superb Hotel, very clean with lovely rooms, we stayed in a Four Poster room which was really cosy. The Staff are very laid back but professional, the food was superb and cooked to order, great selection of Wines and drinks. The Hotel is gorgeous, very peaceful but has a style of its own, set in attractive gardens. We felt very welcome and were so relaxed that we were almost horizontal ! Well situated for getting away from it all, but easy for exploring lots of quaint villages. Vibrant Oxford is about 30 mins drive for a great night out or shopping, Loved it, Loved it, Loved it ! " - Nov  2009. Gail.

"Thought we were in Heaven for a few days. Wow, from the minute we arrived this was idyllic, our greeting was laid back and relaxed, our Four Poster room was stunning, immaculately clean and it felt as though it had personally been prepared just for us. Even the sunshine had been arranged for our stay ! The Proprietor and Staff are very relaxed and made us feel really welcome. We sat enjoying freshly brewed coffee overlooking the garden each morning, watching the Chef cutting fresh herbs to accompany the that day's Menu.
The food is freshly made, to order, the menu has something for every taste, the fresh fish dishes are fab, dining at the Plough is also very popular with locals. Breakfast was second to none, and served with smiles.
To sum up, we had a wonderful time at this beautifully crafted Hotel, the ambience was delightful, relaxing was part of the pleasure, already looking to book our next stay

"Delightful hotel in wonderful surroundings. We booked a last minute one night stay in the Cotswolds, just needed to get away from London for some peace and relaxation. Journey took 1.5 hours to arrive at the delightful little Cotswold village of Clanfield to find the Plough. A 16th Century manor house now operating as a privately owned Inn and restaurant. What a gem!

We had afternoon tea on our day of arrival, served on the front terrace in the afternoon sun. we had probably the smallest room (8) in the old part of the hotel which I have to say was perfectly acceptable for a one / two night stay. We ate in the restaurant and had a most enjoyable meal finished off with coffee in the bar / lounge and a wee dram! The hotel is a little weary around the edges, but a rolling programme of refurbishment is picking that up, without spoiling the character and ambience of such a delightful old building. I understand the modern addition, which is very much in keeping with the mellow cotswold stone exterior, has larger more modern rooms with all the trappings of four poster beds etc if you prefer. Whatever your choice only the most fastidious of clients could be in any way disappointed. we were not and will most certainly return.
I cannot praise The Plough at Clanfield enough.

"Perfect Oxfordshire Retreat. We booked at the last minute and were lucky enough to find that they had just had a cancellation. We stayed in a beautiful room at the top of the oldest part of the hotel with a four poster bed and a bath big enough for two.

The location of the hotel is ideal, close enough to Oxford for a day trip but it feels a million miles away from city life. The thames is a few miles away, there are riverside pubs, boats for hire and the thames walk on your doorstep.

The staff at the hotel were lovely, attentive, friendly, but not intrusive in anyway.

We ate at the hotel both evenings, and the food was great. Great produce, concepts, and presentation. Scallops cooked to perfection, great moule and delcious desserts.
If you are lucky enough to have great weather the terrace at the front of the hotel provides a wonderfully romantic setting.

I can't wait to go back and would whole heartedly recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all and totally switch off for a few days

"Family Getaway. A lovely hotel in great surroundings and close to activities in the area." - Sep 09. P Davies.

"A lovely location, friendly service and good food. A weekend in the Cotsworlds very well spent based from The Plough at Clanfield" - Aug 09. Julian W.

"Lovely romantic break. The Plough at Clanfield was lovely. I arranged dinner and an overnight stay as a surprise for my Husband's birthday. I booked a four poster room which was spacious and beautifully furnished. The bathroom was large and everything was very clean - with the amount of space maybe I would have put a seperate shower in there but the shower over the bath had an oversized head so was very refreshing. Dinner in the restaurant was fabulous. We were the only people there for breakfast so were asked what time we wanted to eat - there was a little too much hollandaise on the eggs benedict for my liking but this was a very minor thing. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. I would definitely stay there again - a great place to get away from everything and relax" - Aug 2009. Alan N.

"Fabulous place in the Cotswold. We found this place through the internet  as a very last minute booking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a this peaceful retreat, wish we could have stayed longer. I would recommend both the breakfast and the dinner as they were well presented and cooked to perfection. Will definitely stay there again." - July 09.  Linda B.

"Beautiful Hotel. No complaints, not even a minor niggle. The hotel is beautiful, perfectly in keeping with the picturesque setting. Staff were friendly and helpful. I even got the room I asked for when booking. I would like to go back and stay longer. I arrived late and had already had dinner but the smells when I arrived made me wish I had waited and eaten there. Breakfast was relaxed, with a good amount of choice. Perfect for a romantic getaway!" - July 09. Amanda G.

"Beautiful, well appointed rooms, great service from friendly and efficient staff and a great kitchen. Book it now!" - April 09.

"An excellent hotel, would recommend it. We stayed in the annex which was built about nine years ago. Good room, big and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and of a good size
The staff were helpful and the service was excellent. the food was particularly good
we looked at the original bedrooms which are smaller and the bathroom is not too big, so i would recommend the annex.
" - March 09. Tim C.

"Would definitely go back there. The breakfast and the evening meal was excellent. Was made to feel very welcome and they went out of the way to help you. Had a 4 poster bedroom it was comfortable and spacious and had a large bathroom. Excellent value for money and would recommend The Plough to anyone." - Jan 09. J Piper.
